'Ours' The Jersey Pals in the Great War

ours book reviewPublished by: The History Press.

When most people refer to Jersey in reference to the War they think of the "Occupation" in the Second World War.  However Jersey had a small but very significant input in the Great War.  6000 Jersey men, served in this tumultuous conflict almost as a multi-national force. Jersey men from English and French extraction fought side by side, in many of the major battles of the Great War. As a small force they were part of the Royal Irish Rifles, and all ways known as the 'Jersey Company'.

Ian Ronayne has in this book 'Ours' rightly brought that contribution made by Jersey men to the fore. His book is well researched and follows the 'Jersey Pals' through many trying times. He writes well particularly the area of their history when the 'Jersey Pals' efforts seem to have been ignored by some fellow islanders.

The book follows the well known format of many of the histories of the Pals Battalions.  It is very well researched and has excellent photographs. The Appendices are ordered and the whole feel of the book is first class.

Ian Ronayne should be rightly pround of this book. It is a fitting tribute to all those who served in the Jersey Pals.  It is a book that can certainly hold its place along side the records of the more well known Pals Battalions. It is a great asset to those who share a passion for researching the Great War.
