The Battle of the Lys was the second major German offensive of 1918. Thanks to the heroic efforts of 55th West Lancashire Division around Givenchy, and Corps Cyclist and Cavalry troops, the offensive was delayed just long enough for reserve units to be rushed up to create a thin front line.
