The Race to find Advanced German Technology after WW2
When:
Wed, 13 June 2012 07:45PM
Where:
Warwick Arms Hotel - Warwick
Category:
Heart of England Branch

Description

Following on from last years ‘experiment’ with a non-WW1 topic, we have invited Captain Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown CBE DSC AFC RN to speak to the branch. Eric, whose father was an RFC pilot, was born just a couple of months after the armistice that ended the Great War. He joined the Fleet Air Arm at the start of WW2, and as well as being a combat pilot, he went on to be a test pilot flying every major combat aircraft of the period, including the early jets (Allied & German). Fluent in German, he commanded a unit following closely behind liberating Allied Forces in 1945 with the task of capturing and evaluating German aircraft and other technology. In this role he interviewed both Hermann Goering and Hanna Reitsch.
