The Western Front Association will be holding its annual Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph once again this year on Wednesday, 11 November 2009..
Members will meet in King Charles Street before the ceremony, before proceeding to the Cenotaph. Officers of the three services will be in attendance along with residents of the Royal Star and Garter Homes. Children from local schools will also be there to lay their own tributes. The Service at 11.00 am will be conducted by Nigel Cave. Wreaths will be laid by all the groups.
At the end of the service there will another held in the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks, after a short walk across the park. This will start at 11.45 am and will be conducted by The Reverend Patrick Irwin, Senior Chaplain, London District.
The Address will be given by General Sir Richard Dannatt, the Lesson by John Chester, our WFA Branches Co-ordinator, the Oration by Tim Godden, a member of the Suffolk Branch, and the Exhortation by Howard Giles, the son of our Founder, John Giles.
After the service many of us will head off for the lunch at Peelers Restaurant, New Scotland Yard, this having been organised by Stuart Bufton, our immediate past WFA Deputy Chairman. This is an opportunity for old friends to meet up and exchange all the news since last year's service.
On this day we will remember our three Veterans who passed away this year and, of course, the men and women who served and died in the Great War.
I hope that you will be able to join us .
