ITN News carried a video report (also shown on the Daily Telegraph's website) of the commemorations around the country on Armistice Day and of the WFA's Annual Service of Remembrance.
The Telegraph reported on the WFA's Annual Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph, as follows:
At the Cenotaph, holders of the Victoria and George Cross were applauded as they took their places at the monument, on the 90th anniversary of its unveiling as a permament memorial to "The Glorious Dead".
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, and the Defence Secretary, Dr Liam Fox, joined veterans and schoolchildren for the traditional wreath-laying, which was led by Brother Nigel Cave, padre of the Western Front Association.
A bugler from the Scots Guards sounded the Last Post to mark the start of the silence, and the Reveille to herald its end.
Dr Fox said: "Today's spontaneous public applause and the presence of schoolchildren shows the tremendous testament of respect with which our Armed Forces are held."
