13 January Pvt John Emil Kardokus

13-january-1919-pvt-john-emil-kardokusPvt John Emil Kardokus, Evacuation Hospital Coy Nr 33, US Army Medical Service, was born at Pleasantville, Sullivan County in 1893.

At the time of his enlistment (at Bridgeport, Oklahoma) on 21 July 1918, John was employed as a farmer at the family farm in Knox County, Indiana. His training was conducted at Camp Greenleaf, Georgia, Camp Shelby and Camp Upton, NY. He died of typhoid on 13 January 1919 at Vichy, France and was initially buried there before being transferred to the American cemetery at Rimaucourt before finally being repatriated back to the USA.
