22 January Gnrs Mate Ralph Voyles

22-january-1919-gnrs-mate-ralph-voylesGnrs Mate 2 Cl Ralph Voyles, US Navy, was born on 13 Oct 1893 near Martinsville, Ind and was a farmer in civilian life.

Enlisting as a Navy apprentice in July 1916, he was initially stationed at the Great Lakes Training School, Illinois, before being transferred to the USS Wyoming. He also saw service on the USS Arkansas and Mississipi.

After contracting pneumonia, Ralph died in the Navy Hospital in Brooklyn, NY on 22 January 1919. He is buried in Mt.Nebo Cemetery near Martinsville.
