2/Lt Sidney Alfred Nathaniel Shafto Barthropp, 3rd (attchd 2nd) Bn R Sussex Regt.
Born at Kensington Court on 25 March 1892, Sidney was educated at Winchester and Cambridge before moving on to study Holy Orders at the Bishop's Hostel, Farnham. However, with the outbreak of war, he joined the 3rd (Special Reserve) Bn of the R Sussex Regt at Dover before becoming attached to the 2nd battalion in France. He was killed in action (during a German attack near the brickstacks at Cuinchy) after only being with the battalion a fortnight. He is now buried in Cuinchy communal cemetery.
