21 March Pte Samuel Nothard

21-march-1915-pte-samuel-nothard2411 Pte Samuel Nothard, 1st Bn King's Own (Ryl Lancaster Regt).

Born at Lydgate near Todmorden in 1896, Samuel enlisted, in Burnley, into the Special Reserve in April 1914. Arriving in France on 1 November 1914, he died of wounds received near ‘Snipers House', Armentieres on 21 March 1915 and was originally buried in the temporary cemetery at ‘Le Maroc'. He now lies in the Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres.
