11 April Pvt Lawrence Raymond Miller

Born in New Albany on 29 July 1897, Lawrence was a clerk in civilian life. He enlisted into the US regular army at Ft Thomas, Kentucky, on 24 October 1917 and was assigned to Co D 4th Balloon Squadron at Ft Omaha, Nebraska. After transferring to the 9th Balloon Company, he was sent to Camp Morrison, Virginia before proceeding overseas in June 1918. Whilst in France , he was invalided with gas poisoning and died, of the combined effects of gas and influenza, in Green Hut Hospital, New York City on 11 April 1919. Lawrence is now buried in Fairview Cemetery, New Albany.
