8225 Pte John Hocking, 6th Bn Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.
Of Cowper Street, Burnley, John was on board the troop ship ‘Cameronia' bound for Mesopotamia when it was torpedoed and sunk by the U-33 some 150 miles to the east of Malta. John was one of 210 who drowned in this incident and is now commemorated on the Chatby Memorial, Alexandria.
