17 April Pte Richard Lewis Pickles

A resident of Granby Street, Burnley, Richard had served in Gallipoli and Egypt before arriving in France. He had been on the Western Front for only a few weeks when he was mortally wounded, dying , at the age of 24, on 17 April 1916. He is now buried in Mailly-Maillet Communal Cemetery Extension.
