20 April Pvt Claude Louis Wilkinson

Claude was born on 9 June 1893 at Jackson Township, Fountain Cty. A barber, he enlisted into the USMC at Indianapolis on 1 May 1917. After basic training at Port Royal, South Carolina, he was sent to  Quantico, Virginia, where he was assigned to the HQ company of the 1/6th Marine Regiment. After going overseas with the 74th Company in September 1917, he was gassed in his billet in the Toulon sector during the 13 April gas bombardment and died in hospital on 20 April 1918.

He is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery, Romagne (Plot F, Row 32, Grave 2).
