10810 Pte Thomas Whittam, 2nd Bn East Lancashire Regiment.
Originally from Burnley, Thomas joined the East Lancs regiment in late 1912 and, after serving with them in South Africa, went to France in November 1914. A participant in the Battle of Neuve Chapelle in March, Thomas was wounded by shellfire whilst holding the frontline near Rouges Bancs and died within a short while of these injuries aged just 20.
He is buried in Sailly-sur-la-Lys Canadian Cemetery.
