2 May Pte John Affleck Buckham

A farmer from Calgary, Alberta, 26 year old John had lived in Canada since the age of 16. He had served on the Western Front since October 1915 and was mortally wounded by artillery fire covering a heavy German trench raid on ‘Trenches 60 to 62' (vicinity of ‘Sanctuary Wood') on 1 May. One of the 2 officer and 52 other rank casualties of that day, he died at Remy Farm on 2 May and is now buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery.
