3 May Cpl James Mackenzie MM

3_may_1917_cpl_james_mackenzie_mm35066 Cpl James Mackenzie MM, 1st Bn Royal Scots Fusiliers.

Born 15 February 1895 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, James emigrated to the USA in September 1910, settling in Gary, Indiana. Following the sinking of the Lusitania in May 1915, he returned to the UK and enlisted, in London, into the 10th Bn Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) with whom he arrived in France in September 1915. After seeing action at Loos, he was wounded in the Ypres Salient and, after recovery, was transferred to the 1/RSF before going into action at Arras, where he was posted missing on 3 May 1917. He is now commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
