15 May Lt Francis A McIlvaine

15_may_lt_francis_a_mcilvaine1st Lt Francis A McIlvaine, 168th Infantry Regt, 42nd (Rainbow) Div.US Army.

Born 13 October 1888 at Glen Allen, Bollinger County, Francis, who was a salesman by trade, enlisted into Co D, 1st Infantry, Indiana National Guard on 15 September 1915. After seeing service on the Mexican Border, he entered the First Officers Training Camp at Ft Benjamin Harrison in May 1917 and was commissioned 1st Lt. He was sent overseas on 8 September 1917 and was assigned to Co M of the 168th Infantry Regt. On 15 May 1918 he was killed in action in the Lorraine Sector and was buried at Pexonne Cemetery, France, his body being repatriated to the USA post-war.
