From Schiltern, Bavaria, 31 year old Martin was a holder of the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Bavarian Militär-Verdienstkreuz. He was killed in action (shell fire) near Douaumont, Verdun on 8 June 1916 and has no known grave.
