15 June 1918 Pvt John Earl Carpenter

Born at Ridgeville, Randolph Cty, on 23 September 1899, John was a student when he enlisted into the army at Richmond, Indiana in May 1917. After training at Jefferson Barracks and Ft Leavenworth, he joined the Signal Corps. He was sent overseas on 24 December 1917 and was assigned to the 1st Fd Bn. John was severely wounded at La Ferte and died of these wounds on 15 June 1918. He was buried in the American Cemetery at La Ferte but his body was repatriated post-war.
