25 June 1917 Pte Adam Nicholl

25_june_1917_pte_adam_nicholl23035 Pte Adam Nicholl, 7th Bn East Lancashire Regiment.

Born in Burnley in 1881, Adam was still living in the town (Bar Street) at the time of his enlistment. He served with the 7th Bn East Lancashire Regiment who were in billets at Kemmel Hill at the time of his death. Adam was one of two soldiers who were severely wounded by shellfire whilst engaged on a working party repairing roads around Wijtschaete on 25 June 1917, and he died a few hours later of these injuries. He is now buried in Dranoutre Military Cemetery.
