92921 Gnr Walter James Lantz, No 2 O/S Battery (later - 98th SB), Canadian Garrison Artillery.
Born at Pinette, Prince Edward Island on 4 February 1891, Walter was a merchant by trade. At the time of his enlistment on 6 October 1915, he was living at Charlottetown and had served for over two years in the local Militia. After joining his battery in Halifax for training, Walter travelled to the UK at the end of November 1915, receiving instruction at Horsham, Lydd and Stockcross before moving to France on 31 May 1916. Initially part of VII Corps Heavy Artillery, they transferred to XV Corps on 4 July.
Engaged in the early part of the Somme offensive, Walter died during a German counter-battery bombardment of his position in the vicinity of Fricourt and is now buried in Dartmoor Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt.
