Pvt James D Baggs, Co F, 168th Infantry, 42nd ‘Rainbow' Division.
From Five Points, Ohio, James was born on 9 September 1892. A Labourer by trade, he joined the army on 21 September 1917 at Greenfield, Indiana and received training at Camp Taylor and Camp Shelby where he was assigned to a replacement draft. Proceeding overseas on 12 June 1918, and he joined Company F of the 168th Infantry in France.
James was killed in action near Epieds on 26 July 1918. He was initially buried in the cemetery at Seringes-et-Nesles. He now lies buried in the Oise-Aisne American Cemetery at Fere-en-Tardenois (plot B, row 18, grave 3).
