Pvt Rex E Nelson, HQ Co, 134th FAR, 34th Div US Army.
From Rochester (but moved to Howard Cty in 1899), Rex was born on 21 October 1894. A machinist, he was drafted into the army on 26 April 1918 at Kokomo, Indiana. Trained at Camp Taylor, Camp Sheridan and Long Island, he went overseas in June 1918. Taken ill shortly after landing in France, he was sent to hospital in Bordeaux where he died on 7 August . His body was returned to Kokomo for burial.
