11 August 1918 Sgt Russell Waldo Coon

Born at Fulton County on 28 October 1895, Russell was an employee of  the American Bridge Company at the time of his enlistement into the US regular army on 25 April 1917. Trained at Ft Thomas, he initially joined Troop D of the 18th Cavalry but, after transferring to Camp Shelby and Camp Merritt , he went overseas to the 76th FAR in April 1918. He was wounded in action during the second Battle of the Marne and died on 11 August 1918. He was returned to the US for burial.
