6 September 1918 Pvt William J Hayden

Born at Evansville on 16 June 1895, William was a High School student when he enlisted into the US Regular Army on 14 December 1917. After training at Jefferson Barracks and Camp Custer, he was sent to the 182nd at Taliaferro Field, Ft Worth, Texas from where he embarked for France on 19 May 1918. Whilst at Le Mans, France, he was killed in a flying accident on 6 September 1918 and was initially buried at Le Mans. His body was repatriated post-war.
