12 September 1916 Pte William Shaw

12 September 1916 Pte William Shaw11512 Pte William Shaw, 1st Bn Loyal North Lancashire Regiment.

Enlisting in the first weeks of the war, William, who was born in Nelson, Lancs, lived at 61 Finsley Gate in neighbouring Burnley. After arriving in France in early 1916, he died of wounds received during the Somme battle in hospital in the UK on 12 September 1916, aged 36. He is buried in Epsom Cemetery.
