14 September 1916 Pte James Doran

14 September 1916 Pte James Doran7827 Pte James Doran, 12th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers.

James lived at 94a Sandygate, Burnley and was a veteran of the Boer War (originally enlisting in 1900). In September 1914, he joined the newly formed 9th Bn Lancashire Fusiliers and, after leaving the UK in July 1915, served with them on the Gallipoli Peninsular where he was wounded. After the evacuation from Gallipoli (and his own personal recovery), James was transferred to the 12th Bn serving in Salonika where he was killed in action on14 September 1916 during the action at Machukovo. James was 38 years of age and has no known grave, being commemorated on the Doiran Memorial, Greece.
