17 September 1918 Smn Jonathan Lee MillerSmn 1st Cl Jonathan Lee Miller, US Navy.

From Maukport, Harrison Cty, Jonathan was born on 9 December 1890. A farmer in civilian life, he enlisted in the US Navy on 13 December 1917 at Des Moines, Iowa, soon afterwards being assigned to the USS New Hampshire. He accidentally fell overboard and was drowned on the night of 17 September 1918. Jonathan's body was never recovered and he is now commemorated on the ‘Tablets of the Missing' at Suresnes American Cemetery, France (where his death is recorded as occurring on 18 September: the date that he was actually reported missing as opposed to the actual ‘watch' that it happened upon).
