17662 Pte Walter Taylor, 1st Bn Cameronians (Scottish Rifles).
Born in Burnley, Walter was still living in the town (Cog Lane) at the time of his enlistment into the 2nd Bn Cameronians in September 1914. Serving in France since March 1915, he transferred to the 1st Battalion soon after the fighting at Aubers Ridge and died of wounds received in the Fonquevillers sector on 22 September 1916. He was just 18 years of age and now lies buried in Foncquevillers Cemetery, France.
