1 October 1915 Sgt Maurice Joseph Sebastian Prevost3335 Sgt Farrier Maurice Joseph Sebastian Prevost, 239 RI.

Born at Grand (Vosges) on 7 January 1884 (Classe of 1904), but living and working at Houilles (Yvelines), Maurice was an active army reservist who was recalled to the reserve regiment of the 39th Infantry (the 239th Regiment) at Rouen in the first week of August 1914. As part of  the 130th Division, he first saw front line service to the north of Neuville St Vaast in July 1915 and took part in the Third Battle of Artois where elements of his regiment made it as far as holding the crest of Vimy Ridge for a few hours (25 Sept 1915). On 1 October, Maurice was wounded in action near the cemetery of Neuville St Vaast, dying of these injuries later in the day. He has no known grave.
