16 October 1918 Lt d Res Anton Stangl

16 October 1918 Lt d Res Anton StanglLt d Res Anton Stangl, 3 Komp, Kgl Bayerisches 31 Infanterie-Regiment (15Bay Inf Div).

From Höfelstahl, Bavaria, 24 year old Anton had served at the front since November 1914 and was a recipient of the Iron Cross 2nd Class , the Bavarian Militär-Verdienstorden 4th Class and the Verdienstkreuz 2nd Class with crown and swords. After fighting in Lorraine and Verdun through 1917, he took part in the 1918 Battle of Reims  before moving to the Meuse-Argonne sector at the end of September 1918. Anton fell in action whilst engaged against US forces in the vicinity of Grandpre/St Georges on 16 October 1918 and now lies buried in the Kameradengrab of the German Military Cemetery at Chestres (Ardennes).
