18 October 1916 Pte John Conlan5713 Pte John Conlan, ‘A' Coy, 2nd Bn East Lancs Regt.

Living at the time of his enlistment at 6 Old Hall Street, Burnley, 23 years old John was Special Reservist who made himself available for full term service in August 1914. Arriving in France on 30 November 1914, John took part in the actions at Neuve Chapelle, Aubers Ridge and Bois Grenier in 1915 before moving to the Somme in July 1916. He was killed in action whilst in the trenches of the Lesboeufs-Gueudecourt sector but his body was lost. He is now commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
