24 October 1916 Capitaine (and Adj Major) Charles Antoine GeoffroyLM86 Capitaine (and Adj Major) Charles Antoine Geoffroy, 61 RI (30th Div).

Born at Nice on 25 November 1881, Charles was married in Aix en Provence in January 1910 and re-enlisted at Marseilles on 3 August 1914. He saw service in Lorraine 1914, the Meuse-Argonne in 1915 and Verdun in 1916 before dying of wounds received to the east of the Ravin de Moulins near Paissy (Chemin des Dames) on 24 October 1916. He was buried to the north of Paissy, but his grave was later lost during the offensives of the following year.

Charles is commemorated in the memorial chapel of the basilica of Notre Dame in Nice (where his year of death is erroneously inscribed as being 1915).
