20 November 1918 Pvt Fred William ButtonPvt Fred William Button, Batt C, 19th FAR, US Army.

Born 28 February 1896, Fred was a mechanic in civilian life. He enlisted into the US Regular Army on 4 June 1917 at Camp Thomas, Kentucky and , after training, was assigned to the 19th Field Artillery. Proceeding overseas in March 1918, he saw three months front line service but was killed, on 20 November 1918, in the accidental explosion of a German shell from which he was attempting to procure the fuse for a souvenir. Originally buried in the American Cemetery at Thiaucourt, his body was repatriated in the 1920s.
