189 Pte James Feeney, 1st Bn East Lancs Regt.
Living at 38 Towneley Street, Burnley at the time of his enlistment, 22 year old James arrived in France on 11 September 1914, joining up with his battalion near Buzancy-le-Long (Aisne) a few days later. After serving in the Wez Macquart sector he took part in actions in the Ploegsteert area and was killed in action whilst ‘trench holding' in the le Gheer/Rive Warne sector on 27 November 1914. He is now buried in Lancashire Cottage Cemetery, Belgium.
