8 December 1915 Sdt Josef Weinberger

From Altenberg, Bavaria, Josef was an economist in civilian life. A recalled reservist, he was mobilized on 2 August 1914 and saw service at the Battle of the Frontiers and Arras 1914 before taking part in 1915 actions at Neuville St Vaast and ‘The Labyrinthe' in May and June of that year. He was killed in action, aged 32, during routine trench holding operations on 8 December. Josef was buried in the German cemetery at Fresnes, but moved post-war to the military cemetery at Neuville St.Vaast (Block 16, grave 974).
