9 December 1918 Sgt Ralph Orvil HiattSgt Ralph Orvil Hiatt, 12 Service Co, US Army Signal Corps.

Born near Arcadia, Hamilton Cty on 12 July 1895, Ralph was an employee of the Bell Telephone company at Minneapolis before enlisting into the army on 6 May 1917. After assignment to the 408th Telegraph Battalion, he was moved to 12th Service Company before being shipped overseas on 20 November 1917. Promoted to Sergeant in France, he contracted pneumonia and died on 9 December 1918 at Troyes. Originally buried in the American Plot of the French Cemetery at Troyes, Ralph's body was returned to the USA post-war.
