Sgt Earl Jess Hobson, Co A, 327th Infantry Regt, US Army.
A regular soldier (although, previously, a farmer), Earl enlisted into the army on 11 February 1914 at the age of 21 years and 5 months. After training at Jefferson Barracks, Minnesota, he spent the next few years stationed at various camps throughout the USA before being sent overseas in May 1918. Badly wounded during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive on 18 October 1918, he died from these injuries on 11 December whilst being treated at Base Hospital Nr 14, Marseilles. Originally buried in the hospital cemetery in Marseilles, Earl's body was repatriated post-war.
