Pvt William Zeverly, Co L, 366th Infantry, US Army.
Born 31 January 1889 at Jackson, Missouri, William was living in Michigan when he was drafted into service on 8 May 1918. After a short spell of training at Camp Grant, Illinois and Camp Upton, New York, he was sent overseas on 15 June 1918 to the 366th Infantry Regiment. This was a particularly unique regiment within the US Army in that it was a totally coloured [the term in use then - Ed.] regiment - both in officers and men. With the 366th, as part of the 92nd Division, he took part in actions in the St Die sector, Meuse-Argonne and Marbach. William died of pneumonia at Base Hospital Nr 55 on 18 December 1918. His place of burial is unknown.
