5_january_1919_pvt_william_henry_pittsPvt William Henry Pitts, 26th Co, 103rd Ammunition Train AEF.

Born in Brockton, Massachusetts on 27 March 1894, William had worked on the family farm in East Bridgewater before gaining employment with the George E Keith Factory where he was taught to drive a truck. Leaving there in 1916, he was then employed as a truck driver for the Empire Laundry Company where he was still employed at the time of his enlistment into the US Army in April 1918. After training at Camp Devens and Camp Mills, William was sent to France where he was involved in the Champagne-Marne, Oise-Aisne and Meuse-Argonne battles. Sadly, although surviving these actions without a scratch, he was to die of pneumonia at Commercy, Lorraine on 5 January 1919. William's remains were repatriated to Brockton.
