47091 Pte Fred Jordan, 1 Sqdn, MGC (Cav).
Born in Burnley, Lancs. in December 1896, Fred initially enlisted into the 13th Reserve Cavalry Regiment (as number 15294 and badged to the 20th Hussars) at some point around the end of January 1916. In June 1916, he was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps (Cavalry) and joined his squadron in France shortly afterwards where they were about to take a role in the battle of Flers-Courcelette that September. After the conclusion of the Somme Battle, a move was made to the Loos sector where, on 6 January 1917, Fred was to die of causes unklnown. He is now buried in Philosophe British cemetery, Mazingarbe.
