Capt Charles William Baker, CAVC.
Born at Queensville, Ontario on 4 September 1872, Charles was a veterinary surgeon with one year's experience in the Imperial Army Veterinary Corps at the time of his enlistment into the CEF (Mobile Veterinary Section, 4th Canadian Division) at Montréal on 12 May 1916. Enlisting as a full lieutenant, Charles soon received his Captaincy but he fell off his horse while serving in France on 21 December 1916, badly shattering his leg and receiving some internal injuries. Evacuated back to the UK, he died on 10 January 1917 in the 1st London General Hospital and is now buried in Nunhead (All Saints) Cemetery, London.
