27 January 1919 Stkr Guiseppe Debattista

27 January 1919 Stkr Guiseppe DebattistaVR/4872 Stkr 2nd Class Guiseppe Debattista, HMCS Canada, RNCVR.

Originally from Robato, Malta, Guiseppe spent the last part of the war serving along the Atlantic coast and was possibly present at the Halifax explosion in December 1917 when HMCS Canada suffered slight damage (and the loss of one crew member) while at anchor in the HMC Dockyard in Halifax harbour. He died in the Naval Hospital at Halifax on 27 January 1919 at the age of 27 years and is now buried there in the Mount Olivet Cemetery.
