28 January 1916 L-Cpl David Gibson Harrold

28 January 1916 L-Cpl David Gibson Harrold29328 L/Cpl David Gibson Harrold, 16th Bn CEF. Born in Kirkwall, Orkney on 29 June 1894, David was a clerk before he enlisted into the CEF at Valcartier on 7 September 1914. He had emigrated to the USA (Boston) in 1913, but soon moved to Winnipeg, Canada where he was still living at the time of his enlistment. Travelling to England with the first Canadian contingent, he managed to pay a visit to his native Orkney in November of 1915 whilst on leave. David was killed just two months later in the Ploegsteert sector when he was shot and killed by a German sniper. David is buried in La Plus Douve Farm Cemetery, Belgium.
