From Schrollhof bei Böllbrach in Bavaria, Max was an economist before re-enlisting into the army in August 1914. He had seen 28 months service - almost exclusively in the Aisne region - up until his death, by gas-poisoning, near Gouzeaucourt on 29 January 1917. He was 25 years of age and is now buried in the Kameradengrab of the German military cemetery at Cambrai.
