Pvt Artie Blair Caldwell, 3rd Regt, 5th Prov Ordnance Depot, US Army.
From Altoona, Pennsylvania, Artie was born on 12 June 1894 and was employed as a fireman on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad at the time of his enlistment at Auburn, Indiana on 14 June 1918. After training at Ft Benjamin Harrison (Indiana) and Camp Hancock (Georgia), he served overseas with the Ordnance Dep from August 1918. Artie died of meningitis at Base Hospital 103 on 6 February 1919 and was initially buried in the nearby French Military Cemetery at Dijon, Côte d'Or. His body was repatriated later.
