14 February 1915 Lt Charles Edward Beausire

Born 20 June 1892 at Iqiuque, Chile, Charles was educated at Winton House School ,Winchester and at Rugby. In August 1914, he enlisted as a private in the 23rd Bn London Regiment and was soon promoted to Corporal. Gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant in the 12th Bn in November 1914, he travelled to France the following month. On Sunday, 14 February 1915, he was killed, along with two of his men, whilst holding a very exposed section of trench in the Ypres Salient which had been heavily shelled all day. Originally buried near where he fell, Charles' remains were later lost and he is now commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres.
