20 February 1916 Sgt John Cockerill

20 February 1916 Sgt John Cockerill545 Sgt John Cockerill, Royal Canadian Dragoons.

Born at Romaldkirk, Yorkshire on 16 November 1884, John was a civil engineer in Canada at the time of his enlistment. He enlisted at Valcartier on 24 September 1914 and was killed by a German aerial bomb in Bailleul (targeting the railway station) whilst returning to his billet in the town. He is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery extension.
