24 February 1917 Lt Edward Vincent Bayley

24 February 1917 Lt Edward Vincent Bayley2/Lt Edward Vincent Bayley, 6th Bn S Staffs (attchd RFC).

Born at Nantwich in 1885, Edward was educated at Marlborough and became a member of the Stock Exchange in 1909. Enlisting into the army in late 1915, he was commissioned into the 6th South Staffs on 5 January 1916 but applied for pilot training with the RFC later that year. It was whilst in training that he accidentally crashed and was killed at Vendome (Loir et Cher) on 24 February 1917. He is buried in Vendome Town Cemetery.
