4 March 1917 Sgt Harold Cecil Wilkinson18573 A/Sgt Harold Cecil Wilkinson, 2nd Bn East Lancashire Regiment.

Living at 105 Hollingreave Road, Burnley, Lancs at the time of his enlistment, Harold joined the East Lancs at the very beginning of the war. After arriving in France in May 1915, Harold took part in several actions including the Loos diversionary action at Bois Grenier (after which he spent some considerable time in this same sector), the German attack at Vimy Ridge and the Somme offensive before he was killed in action on 4 March 1917 during the attack on ‘Pallas', 'Jupiter' and ‘Fritz' trenches near Bouchavesnes. Aged 20 at death, Harold's body was never identified and he is now commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
